History of Salher & Salota Forts

·       Salher Fort is the highest fort in Maharashtra and the second highest peak in the state after Kalsubai. It is best known for the Battle of Salher (1671-72) between the Marathas and the Mughals. This was the first open-field battle where the Marathas decisively defeated the Mughals, marking a turning point in Indian history.

·       Salota Fort, adjacent to Salher, served as a watchtower for enemy movements. It is less explored, making it an exciting offbeat destination.

·       Legends say that Lord Parshuram performed penance at Salher, adding to the spiritual significance of this place. A temple at the top of the fort stands as a reminder of this legend.
