Located just 60 km from Nashik Road Railway Station and 48 km from Nashik, this fort offers a unique trekking experience filled with history, scenic beauty, and adventure. While it may not be widely mentioned in history books, the serpentine rock-cut steps, a 700-year-old water tank, and ancient architecture whisper tales of a glorious past. 

Historical Significance

  • The history of Bhaskargad is rich and layered, making this trek a must for heritage lovers.
  • 1271–1308 AD – Ruled by the Yadavas of Devagiri, who are credited with building the fort.
  • Later came under Bahamani Sultanate and then Nizamshahi of Ahmednagar.
  • In 1629 AD, Shahaji Raje, father of Shivaji Maharaj, revolted and took control of the fort.
  • 1633 AD – Mughals captured Bhaskargad after Shahaji’s Maharaj defeat. 
  • 1670 AD – Moropant Pingle, Peshwa of Shivaji Maharaj, captured it from the Mughals.
  • 1688 AD – Mughals recaptured it.
  • 1730 AD – The Koli tribe revolted and seized the fort.
  • 1818 AD – British (East India Company) took control under Captain Briggs.
